Rangers Euro classic and Celtic hammering named on UEFA “best of” list

Rangers’ 2-2 draw with Benfica has been included on a list of the UEFA Europa League’s best matches from the tournament this season.

The Ibrox side went unbeaten in the group stages of the competition and the matches with the Portuguese giants were particularly enthralling affairs.

Rangers had earned a 3-3 draw in Lisbon, coming from behind to go 3-1 up in the match before surrendering two late goals to the 10-man Portuguese outfit.

As the club welcomed Jorge Jesus’ side to Glasgow the Gers had revenge on their minds after losing two late goals in the first clash between the two clubs.

Rangers would once again take a two-goal lead over the talent-strewn Portuguese side with Scott Arfield opening the scoring after only seven minutes.

Some neat play between Borna Barisic and Alfredo Morelos had the ball swung into the box from the left before Kemar Roofe forced a point-blank save from the keeper Helton.

The ball would then be headed onto the bar by James Tavernier before Arfield volleyed an effort low into the back of the net.

Barisic was involved in a stunning Kemar Roofe second as well as he played a neat one-two with Glen Kamara before finding the summer signing.

Roofe would compose himself outside the box before rocketing an effort into the back of the net in what UEFA describe as the “must see moment” of the game.

A James Tavernier own goal and Pizzi strike just three minutes later as the game entered its final stages surrendered the lead to the Portuguese once again.

The Gers would however have the last laugh, coming out of the group as winners and going on to beat Royal Antwerp in the last 32 before being knocked out by Slavia Prague.

Hilariously, Celtic’s 4-1 hammering at the hands of Sparta Prague is also included on the list and this is another memorable moment from this year’s campaign on the continent.

Rangers’ achievements on the European stage have also ensured that this year’s Scottish Cup winners get an unbelievable Europa League opportunity next season.
