Rangers duo the McCrorie twins both played as the Scotland U21s fell to a 2-1 defeat against Sweden.

Combative defender/defensive midfielder Ross McCrorie and goalkeeper Robby started the match but were powerless to resist as an experimental Scotland side were defeated.

Motherwell defender Barry Maguire got the goal for Scotland. Swansea’s Joel Asoro and Sunderland’s Benjamin Mbunga won the day for Sweden.

It brings the Scotland youngsters’ tour of Spain to an end on a sour note. The U21s travelled to Marbella to face Sweden after drawing 0-0 with Mexico on Friday. Ross McCrorie also played in that one.

U21s coach Scot Gemmill made seven changes to the starting side from that day but it wasn’t enough to earn Scotland the result they wanted.

Ross McCrorie, who is also the U21s skipper, was booked for a foul on Sweden’s Carl Johansson in the first half. It summed up a frustrating day for the U21s and for the McCrorie twins.

Whilst Robby McCrorie is on-loan at Greenock Moeton and unlikely to displace Allan McGregor in the Rangers goal, there have been more chances for brother Ross.

However, Ross McCrorie has found himself on the fringes at Ibrox recently. That’s despite Gerrard’s side not losing a domestic game with the player in the side.

Will we see him recalled to action against Celtic on Sunday?
