Rangers look to have secured a safe pair of hands in Jack Butland with Michael Beale replacing Allan McGregor with an individual who has played at the highest level.
Things could have been different though if the current drama at Crystal Palace had played out earlier in the transfer window.
Speaking to Viaplay, Roy Hodgson has revealed that Vicente Guaita is refusing to play after losing his place to former Rangers target Sam Johnstone, how he must be wishing that Jack Butland could have been persuaded to sign a new deal.

Rangers timed Jack Butland move perfectly with Crystal Palace problems
The Spaniard has been first choice for much of his time at the Eagles, however, when Johnstone displaced him, it would appear that he has spat the dummy.
Clearly not happy himself, Hodgson explained what the current situation is:
“He [Sam Johnstone] is the only choice at the moment because Guaita is disenchanted with the club and has said he would like to move on.
“He’s refused to play in our games so far.
“A complication is that he has a year’s contract.
“It’s up to the club to decide, not him.
“He’s made it clear to everybody he doesn’t want to be here and compete with Sam Johnstone.
“So Sam Johnstone is No 1 and Remi Matthews is No 2.”

Had Guaita made his feelings known earlier in the summer, Hodgson might have made more of an attempt to keep Jack Butland at the club, although Rangers does seem to have been a big pull for the 9-times capped England international.
As it is, Butland is one of a few players who has looked good throughout pre-season and against Kilmarnock.
Calm under pressure and proactive in sweeping up behind his defence, the 30-year old was effective at stopping opportunities but had no chance with the goal that was conceded.
For once, fate has done Rangers a favour.
