Philippe Clement will be looking for other players to step up for Rangers over the rest of the season with Todd Cantwell starting to show that he could be the main man.

Man of the match against Livingston at Ibrox, the Light Blues number 13 is starting to display the sort of end product that a number ten should.

The Gers boss is having to cope without Abdallah Sima and Danilo but in Todd Cantwell, Rangers have a match winner who has rediscovered the form that made him a fan favourite last season.

Rangers matchwinner emerges in Todd Cantwell

It’s not been an easy season for the 25-year old, however, there have been mitigating circumstances.

On match day one, Michael Beale decided to leave the player who had been our most creative the season before on the bench.

He then played the £1.5m signing almost anywhere else other than his preferred number ten role.

Then, injury struck and he missed almost two months of action.

When he returned, injuries to other players meant that Clement had to play him out of position.

It didn’t always go to plan, but the manager made it clear that he appreciated Todd Camtwell’s willingness to sacrifice himself for Rangers.

A personal problem towards the end of the year saw him given time off and he would be wondering if it was going to be one of those seasons.

With four goals in his last six league games though, we are starting to see the best of Cantwell once again.

The trademark late runs into the box that became a regular feature of his play have returned with Clement adopting a system that gives Cantwell the freedoms to attack the box.

It is also a system and philosophy that matches the energy and attitude of the player himself.

Rangers fans were calling for another striker in January but the reality is that we needed more forward players to start chipping in with more goals – Todd Cantwell is more than doing his best to play his part.
