Rangers wanted Denis Bouanga last summer and the forward is now on fire in front of goal for LAFC over in the United States.

The Gers were in the market for attacking additions last summer and ended up signing Malik Tillman, Rabbi Matondo, Tom Lawrence and Antonio Colak.

Another name on the radar was Bouanga though as Rangers attempted to raid Saint-Etienne.

French outlet Le10Sport claimed that Rangers had made a bid to bring Bouanga to Ibrox.

Saint-Etienne had been relegated from Ligue 1 and Rangers were trying to serve as vultures, hoping to pick off a key player for a knockdown price.

However, Rangers had their bid rejected as Saint-Etienne demanded around £4.2million – a price the Gers just wouldn’t pay.

Bouanga ended up being sold to MLS side LAFC instead and the move appears to be working brilliantly for all parties.

Denis Bouanga on fire after Rangers missed out

Bouanga had a decent start with LAFC, notching three goals in his first 10 games whilst becoming an MLS Cup champion.

The 28-year-old is now in blistering form though having smashed a hat-trick in the CONCACAF Champions League against Alajuelense on Friday.

After destroying the Costa Rican side, Bouanga added two more goals in a 4-0 win over New England Revolution on Sunday night.

Timothy Tillman – the older brother of Rangers ace Malik – was also on the scoresheet in a thumping win.

That’s five goals in two games for Bouanga, who was called a ‘machine’ on Instagram by teammate Aaron Long.

There are still times where Bouanga is a little wasteful but this goalscoring form is hugely impressive – and the kind of form Rangers would love from one of Michael Beale’s attackers.

The window of opportunity for Bouanga to join Rangers appears to have closed now, and the Gabonese forward appears to be loving life in the United States.
