Rangers have been dealt a major double blow ahead of Saturday’s Premiership fixture against Motherwell after Steven Gerrard confirmed that both Ryan Jack and Leon Balogun will miss the game through injury [Official Rangers Twitter].
The Gers are looking to get back on track after losing their 27-game unbeaten record in disastrous fashion at the hands of St Mirren in the League Cup in midweek.
However, they will be without two key players for the contest.
“Balogun is unavailable for tomorrow as we are following medical protocol after a head injury,” said Gerrard [Official Rangers Twitter]. “Jack is close but won’t make the weekend.”
Balogun has started each of Rangers’ last five matches in all competitions but it’s no great surprise that he will miss out at the weekend after his substantial collision with Jon Obika on Wednesday night.
Meanwhile, Jack’s continued absence will be a source of frustration for many supporters.
The 28-year-old hasn’t featured since picking up a muscle injury in the 4-0 win over Aberdeen in November and he is now well behind schedule in terms of his recovery.
Based on previous comments from Gerrard, the midfielder should have returned to the side at Dundee United last weekend, but he’s now approaching a month on the sidelines.
They aren’t the only Rangers players currently missing out due to injury, though, and fans looking forward to the return of a bulked-up long-term absentee in early 2021.
