Back-up Rangers goalkeeper and cult hero Andy Firth has revealed that it’s best to avoid legendary Ibrox kitman Jimmy Bell after a defeat.

The likeable third-choice Rangers stopper was speaking to the popular Four Lads Had a Dream podcast [hosted on Gersnet] about life at the Ibrox club.

Between discussing his career before Rangers, the size of the club and Firth’s relationship Allan McGregor, there was still plenty of time to talk about one of Rangers’ most famous characters.

“Jimmy’s amazing,” said Firth [Four Lads].

“He’s an absolute legend. I’ve got all the time in the world for him.

“When I first went there, I’d already heard a few stories about him.

“On my first day I walked in and I wanted an under-armour for training, and he just looked at me and was like ‘you don’t need one of them you’re alright.’

“It took a couple of weeks to break him down but since then we’ve been flying.

“If we’ve been beat the night before just avoid him, because he’ll be sad, he’ll be annoyed, he’ll be angry – he is a fan.

“But then when we’re on top of the world and we’re winning he’s the one who’s bouncing off the walls cracking all the jokes.

“He’s a top fella and I can’t speak highly enough of him.”

For many Rangers fans, Andy Firth has the best job in not just world football, but the world.

The third-choice Rangers goalkeeper might’ve only made one appearance for the club so far, but his presence on the bench, in the background and on social media has made him a bit of a cult hero.

Recently signing a new contract which will keep him at Rangers until 2021, the former Liverpool youth and Barrow keeper’s interview with Four Lads Had a Dream shows Firth to be a positive, ambitious young man.

A great source of positivity, it’s clear that the likeable 23-year-old goalkeeper cherishes life at Ibrox and wants to improve whilst he has his chance here.

Let’s just hope he’s not spending too many days avoiding Jimmy Bell when football eventually returns next season!
