Ex-Rangers hero Rod Wallace left an emotional Instagram post with a £9.5m Dutch of class as he looked back on his Ibrox days.

Playing in Dick Advocaat’s team strewn with Dutch internationals, Wallace shared a picture of himself with Arthur Numan and Gio van Bronckhorst at a Rangers Christmas do.

The Dutch duo cost £4.5m and £5m respectively and Wallace paid tribute to them by describing them as “great guys”.

Both Numan and Gio represented significant outlays by Rangers during the Advocaat revolution back in 1998, whereas Rod Wallace was considered a surprise signing after his contract expired at Leeds United.

All three would shine in the blue of Rangers but Rod Wallace is amongst the biggest and best bargains the club has ever signed.

In their first season, Wallace, Numan and GVB won the domestic treble but it was the English forward, not the Dutch internationals who stole the show.

Wallace was the club’s top scorer with 27 goals that year and scored the winner on the final day of the season – the 1999 Scottish Cup Final v Celtic.

The diminutive striker would go on to win five major honours for Rangers in three seasons, hitting an impressive 56 goals in three years at the club.

Arthur Numan would go on to write himself in Rangers folklore spending five years at the club, winning 10 major honours.

Gio van Bronckhorst would leave Rangers alongside Wallace in 2001, signing for Arsenal in a reported £8m deal before going on to play with Barcelona.

But despite the big price tags and glamour of the Dutch internationals, it was perhaps Rod Wallace who was the most cost-effective signing of the Advocaat era.
