Rangers’ injuries for Ayr United this week are mounting up at a worrying rate.
Steven Gerrard could be without an incredible six of his top Gers stars for the Betfred Cup quarter-final on Wednesday. This comes after captain James Tavernier came off against St Johnstone with injury.
The Rangers captain came off against St Johnstone just 10 minutes into the second half for Ovie Ejaria. Ejaria himself had just returned from a knock, with Graham Dorrans also back in contention after his appearance against Villarreal.

But Rangers could still be without Tavernier, Eros Grezda, Borna Barisic, Ryan Jack, Gareth McAuley, and Jordan Rossiter for Ayr’s visit.
Granted, Rossiter is hardly a surprise. At this stage, Rangers fans are more likely to be surprised when he’s fit than when he isn’t.
McAuley continues to struggle with a complaint picked up right after signing for Rangers. Fortunately, Gerrard has his defence well-stacked with Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, and Joe Worrall available to slot in. Still, Rangers fans will want to have the Northern Irish veteran available as soon as possible.
Grezda concern
Grezda is another big source of concern for Gers supporters. Much has been made of the Albanian’s potential since arriving from Osijek. He was away with the Albanian national team to face Scotland in the UEFA Nations League, but is still out with an ankle injury.
Daniel Candeias is looking more than capable down the right, however. His recent performances against Villarreal and Dundee have given supporters reason to be delighted with him. Dropping him at this stage would be harsh, but Grezda’s fitness is still a big concern for supporters.

Gerrard is likely to make a plethora of changes on Wednesday night regardless.
This, however, would’ve been an ideal scenario for the likes of Grezda and McAuley to come in and get some game-time. Instead, the pair along with several others are struggling with knocks ahead of Ayr’s visit.
It’s important Rangers don’t underestimate Ian McCall’s men in this week’s quarter-final either. United are top of the Championship and looking in fine form so far this season. They’ll provide Rangers with a good test, but the Ibrox side look up for anything these days after Sunday’s rout.
