Rangers could be handed a major boost for the Betfred Cup Final with star Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard potentially missing the crunch match through injury.
The French forward is undoubtedly Celtic’s best striking option and our Parkhead rivals are relatively thin up front beyond that.
Should Edouard miss the match, there’s little doubt that it would hand Rangers an advantage in what promises to be an enthralling encounter.
“I can’t pinpoint when he’ll be back [Edouard],” said Celtic boss Neil Lennon [BBC Scotland].
He added: “We have to soldier on without him at the minute and we’ll see how he is as the week goes on. We’re taking it day by day.”
As a result of the injury, Edouard has missed Celtic’s last two matches against Rennes and Ross County.
Celtic statistically rely on Edouard more than Rangers do any singular player [Modern Fitba]. He is a major part of how they play.
Combine that with the fact Leigh Griffiths is coming back from a continued spell on the side-lines, and it would represent a major boost to Rangers should the former PSG youth miss the final.
But with Rangers needing to prepare for the game and mind-games aplenty in the run-up to Old Firm derby, is Lennon simply employing one of the oldest tricks in the book?
