Bayer Leverkusen talisman Kai Havertz is pushing for a £70m+ transfer to Chelsea to be concluded before the club play Rangers in the Europa League, according to Sky Sports.
The broadcaster believes that the talented German playmaker, 21, wants to move to Frank Lampard’s side with the Bundesliga outfit valuing the player at £90m.
However, Sky Sports believes that Chelsea are hopeful of securing a £70m+ deal with add-ons before the Germans welcome Steven Gerrard’s Rangers team.
This would represent a considerable boost to the Ibrox club’s chances with Havertz viewed as a pivotal part of how Leverkusen play.
The youngster has been a mainstay in the Bayer side ever since breaking through at the club as a 17-year-old.
A German international, Havertz opened the scoring from the penalty spot to give Leverkusen the lead at Ibrox and captained the side to a 3-1 victory in the Europa League last-16 first leg.
Rangers will need to be on top form to turn the tie around and there is no doubt they’d be handed a boost if Kai Havertz does not play for the German side.
Steven Gerrard’s charges will need to score three goals to stand any chance of progressing with Gary McAllister considering the first goal to be all-important in Germany [Rangers].
