Former Celtic winger Moi Elyounoussi is set to visit Rangers as part of a January friendly with Danish outfit FC Copenhagen.

The Gers have announced a special mid-season winter friendly with the Champions League outfit at Ibrox on Tuesday 16th January – the first game of 2024 at the famous ground.

With the Scottish game set to split for a winter break, Rangers will be looking to test themselves against FC Copenhagen ahead of the second half of the season.

Tickets to the friendly are already on sale to Rangers season ticket holders and you can find out all the information you need via the Ibrox club’s website.

Rangers friendly v Champions League upstarts Copenhagen

Rangers manager Philippe Clement will look forward to facing off against a solid FC Copenhagen outfit who’re pulling up some roots in the Champions League.

The Danes have been drawn in a group with Bayern Munich, Manchester United and Galatasaray and currently occupy 2nd place ahead of matchday six.

This comes after a heroic 0-0 draw in Munich on matchday five and a stunning 4-3 victory over Man United in Copenhagen on matchday four.

It means FC Copenhagen are very much in with a chance of qualification for the Champions League knockouts and the club’s story will be a source of Rangers inspiration.

As Rangers welcome Copenhagen for a friendly, the club will be taking notes with the Gers squad very much looking to punch above their weight at the Champions League level from here on in.

Moi Elyounoussi to return to Glasgow

Amongst the Copenhagen travelling party will be a familiar face to Rangers in former Celtic winger Moi Elyounoussi.

The Norwegian international winger spent two years on loan at Celtic from then Premier League Southampton, for whom he’d cost £16m from FC Basel in 2018.

Having been awarded a winner’s medal* as part of Celtic’s asterisk-stricken Covid title from the 19/20 season, the winger left the Parkhead club in the aftermath of 55.

Rangers were electric in the 20/21 season and lifted the league title under Steven Gerrard, going unbeaten in the process.

Since then, Moi Elyounoussi struggled to make any real impression at Southampton and the 29-year-old signed a four-year deal with Copenhagen in the summer.

Rangers fans will be hoping it’s an unhappy return to Glasgow for the Norwegian, who has 54 caps and 10 goals for his country.
