He brings a wealth of experience to the table – something Gerrard lacked when he was initially appointed at Ibrox – having previously worked at Liverpool, Chelsea and famous Brazilian club, Santos FC.

As a result, he’s had the chance to coach some of the brightest talents in world football.

He believes Hagi is in that bracket and has been impressed by the Romania star’s progress since he moved to Rangers.

“Ianis turned 22 back at the end of October and he has had a fantastic year, domestically and obviously now with the national team as well,” said Beale [RangersTV]. “I see him blossoming every day.”

“I’m in a unique position, I’ve worked with a lot of top young players and I’d put Ianis right up there. He is two-footed, he works hard, he is a lovely young man.

“So, for me, to see his growth this year has been fantastic. To score for his national team, bearing in mind who his dad is and the career his dad had, it is a special moment for the family, so I had a little text with Ianis.”

The goal Beale is referring to was the winner in Romania’s opening Group J World Cup Qualifier against North Macedonia last week.

It was Hagi’s first senior international strike but his eighth goal of the season to go alongside 12 Gers assists.

He’s currently the subject of plenty of transfer speculation, with Lazio amongst the clubs said to be interested [La Lazio Siamo Noi], but Rangers and Beale will want to hold onto the exciting creator for a while yet, as they go in search of more trophies and the Champions League proper.

Meanwhile, Rangers scouts reportedly watched an on-fire striker at the weekend ahead of a possible summer transfer swoop.
