Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has provided an update on the Ibrox club’s pre-contract pursuit of Aberdeen forward Scott Wright.

Rangers were linked with a move for Dons man Wright, 23, earlier in the week as Pittodrie boss Derek McInnes lauded the Ibrox club’s conduct in their approach for the player.

According to Steven Gerrard, a deal to sign Wright is “extremely close” as he admitted if the Gers could sign him in this window it would be a “bonus”.

The Ibrox gaffer also didn’t rule out a potential swap deal or the loan deal for Ross McCrorie being accelerated as part of the move.

Reports earlier in the week had suggested that Rangers forward Greg Stewart could be used as a makeweight for the deal with the ex-Dons striker also out of contract in the summer.

Gerrard claims there are “different options” on the table and failed to rule out either player being used in the deal.

“The money men will talk and I’m sure in the conversations they will have everything on the table in terms of possibilities to try to get this done in the coming weeks,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“There are different options. There’s a possibility of one of our players going the other way.

“There is a possibility of cash up front and I don’t know where the Ross McCrorie deal lies in terms of what needs to be done and what doesn’t. But I’m sure that’s another possibility as well.”

Here’s what Aberdeen boss and ex-Rangers midfielder Derek McInnes had to say about the Ibrox club’s interest in one of his brightest talents.
