After Celtic slipped up once again on Wednesday night at Livingston, a 55th top-flight title looks inevitable for Rangers, with Neil Lennon admitting once again that the league may be “beyond” his team [Scottish Sun].

Lennon shocked Rangers legend Barry Ferguson with his seemingly defeatist response to a question on the title race during his explosive press conference on Monday.

The situation has since got even worse for the Hoops boss, though, as his team drew 2-2 with Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena, extending their winless run in the Premiership to four matches.

Rangers now hold a whopping 20-point lead over their rivals, who only have two games in hand, and with the bulk of the season already completed, it would take a monumental Gers collapse for the league trophy to end up anywhere other than Ibrox.

Lennon stopped short of conceding the league, but he did suggest twice in a post-match interview that the race was as good as over.

“Never say never [in terms of the league title], but the draws have killed us,” he said [Scottish Sun]. “That’s three in a row now. We have a lot to do, people will say it’s over and I understand that.”

Then, responding to a question regarding his future, he said: “I’ve been concerned about my position for a long time. When I came in I wasn’t sure how long I’d be in the job for as there was an outcry.

“But I have won five trophies out of six so far – maybe the league is beyond us but I don’t think there has been a balance.”

With a second Old Firm win of the season to start their 2021, Rangers were already in a very strong position prior to Celtic’s trip to Dubai.

However, the Hoops’ failings since then have rendered the title race all but over and Lennon clearly knows that to be the case.

If Rangers can simply continue with the professional and ruthless approach that has taken them so far already this season, the league will be sewn up with weeks to spare.

Next up for Steven Gerrard’s side is a clash against Ross County at Ibrox on Saturday and a Rangers transfer clause ensures the in-form Staggies will be understrength for the fixture.
