Michael Beale is keen to bring Angus Gunn to Ibrox at the end of the season as the 42-year-old and Ross Wilson aim to replace Allan McGregor.

The Norwich No.28 has emerged as a top target for Rangers this summer – according to The Sun.

Now, Gunn – who Wilson signed for Southampton in a deal worth £13.5m back in 2018 – could push to join Rangers after this Saturday, in our view at least.

What’s the story?

Well, Gunn is expected to make his Scotland debut at Hampden Park on Saturday in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifier against Cyprus.

The 27-year-old accepted an invitation from Steve Clarke after recognising that his best chances of making an impact on the international scene would be with Scotland, despite representing England at Under-16, Under-17, Under-19, Under-20 and Under-21 level.

Gunn is eligible to play for Scotland thanks to his father, Bryan Gunn.

So, why would a debut for Scotland change anything in terms of Rangers wanting to sign Gunn?

Well, everybody knows how passionate football fans are in Scotland – especially during competitive international fixtures at Hampden Park.

Witnessing that atmosphere first hand, and its similarity to the raucous atmosphere created by those at Ibrox, will surely give Gunn goosebumps in comparison to the quieter nature of Norwich’s Carrow Road, which could see him express a desire to make it a more regular thing by joining Rangers.

Gunn will also be spending plenty of time alongside Ryan Jack throughout the international break, so he can be told all about life at Rangers and ask anything he wants to know.

Angus Gunn should force Rangers move

In our view, a move to Glasgow would be the making of Gunn.

The Norwich-born glovesman has always shown promise throughout his career, with many expecting him to become one of the best goalkeepers in England – hence why Southampton spent £13.5m on his services when he was just 22.

However, Gunn has struggled to nail down a No.1 spot across spells at Manchester City, Southampton, Stoke and even under David Wagner at Norwich this season.

Therefore, we believe he should take his career into his own hands, and grasp the opportunity of playing for a massive club in Rangers with both hands.

If Gunn can secure a move to Ibrox, it could turn out to be the making of him.
