Although the table may look very different come the end of the season, at this moment in time, the SPL’s top four can all be considered as title challengers.
As the January window prepares to slam shut, we take a look at their activity, one by one. Each transfer mentioned here, is listed on the official SPFL website’s list of confirmed signings.
Aberdeen
The Dons have confirmed two inward transfers during this month. Firstly, they agreed an extension of Max Lowe’s loan from Derby County. The 21-year-old played an important role during the first half of the season, featuring 18 times in the league.
Secondly, Derek McInnes nabbed Greg Stewart from Kilmarnock. This could prove to be an inspired move. He registered eight goals and six assists for Killie and is already off the mark in his second stint at Pittodrie.

Celtic
Brendan Rodgers has plucked for youth, rather than experience in this window.
The Hoops haven’t spent like they might have been expected to, but their loan signings have started well. Both Oliver Burke and Timothy Weah are already off the mark in the league.

Kilmarnock
The Rugby Park outfit were dealt a major blow with Greg Stewart’s decision to rejoin rivals, Aberdeen.
However, they have since acquired two loan signings.
Striker, Connor McAleny joins from Fleetwood Town, while Alex Bruce offers an experienced centre-back option, after switching from Wigan Athletic.

Rangers
Last but certainly not least – the Gers.
The club have been busy this month. They secured the SPL’s two marquee signings in the early days of the window, by bringing in Jermain Defoe and Steven Davis, on loan.
Two relatively unknown quantities have since joined them: Matt Polster and Andy Firth.

Who has gained an edge?
While each of the top four have strengthened to some degree, it looks as if Rangers have gained the most this month.
Steven Davis was always on the cards, but to also bring in Jermain Defoe, could prove a masterstroke.
In addition, groundwork laid this month will bring dividends next season. Pre-contract agreements for Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones means Rangers have already begun strengthening for next campaign.
