It’s never a nice feeling losing an Old Firm derby, but Rangers captain James Tavernier will be feeling it more than most as he woke up today.
The right-back sold a short pass to Callum McGregor who fed Odsonne Edouard before James Forrest scored. It wasn’t pleasant, and it was a poor ball from Tav.
But whilst Alfredo Morelos let the side down with petulance, James Tavernier made a costly mistake. And he’ll be ruing it.
Prior to Celtic scoring Rangers actually looked the more likely of the two sides to win the game. We were putting the pressure on Celtic and it was a very strong second half showing.
In the end, we would’ve probably taken a draw but James Tavernier’s costly mistake ensured Celtic took the spoils.
The Rangers captain is often criticised and not always fairly. This time though, he’ll understand just how monumental a mistake his pass was.
The best we can hope for now is that this Old Firm win papers over the cracks for Celtic. And that Neil Lennon is given the job full time.
But James Tavernier will be licking his wounds after costing Rangers the game. And he’ll be in a rush to make amends come our rival’s visit to Ibrox after the split.
