And as the Toon Army sign the England international on a four-year deal, it should finally put to bed any suggestion Newcastle United may have met Rangers’ demands.
The Premier League side are one of a number of clubs who’ve been linked with a move for the Colombian striker over the last season or so.
Some of these have verged from the perfectly viable to the suitably ridiculous and given Rangers’ fractured relationship with Magpies owner Mike Ashley, the northeast club verge into the latter.
Despite the High Street billionaire’s much publicised retail row with Rangers, the club’s prized asset has been routinely linked to St. James’ Park over the course of the last year.
Local Newcastle paper the Chronicle described the striker as a “target” for Steve Bruce’s side as early as June this year.
But the notion that Rangers would do business with Ashley over their prized asset given the years of tumultuous courtroom battles seems farfetched.
It’s not the first time we’ve pointed this out and perhaps now these reports will finally cease with Morelos’ future at Ibrox looking increasingly uncertain.
The striker is reportedly interesting the likes of Lille and Porto and was dropped from the first-team by Steven Gerrard due to his attitude amidst the reported interest.
However, if it’s unlikely Rangers would deal with a player going to a Mike Ashley club, what does that say about reported Ibrox interest in a Newcastle player Jacob Murphy?
Does this work both ways or is Morelos different because he’s so important to Rangers?
