Rangers saw Brian Kinnear leave in 2021 but the goalkeeper looks set to leave West Ham United for a return to Scottish football.

The Gers haven’t quite had the desired success in terms of youth prospects emerging into the first team.

Nathan Patterson was a shining light before his big move to Everton and there are high hopes for Leon King and Alex Lowry.

Many others have fallen by the wayside though, such as Ross McCrorie and Stephen Kelly.

Another example is goalkeeper Kinnear, who came up through the Rangers ranks.

Kinnear was never able to break into the first team though and decided to leave for West Ham United in 2021.

After just a handful of appearances for West Ham’s Under-21’s, it looks like Kinnear is on his way out.

Football Insider are today reporting that West Ham have already decided to release Kinnear this summer.

The 22-year-old’s contract expires this summer and West Ham are deciding not to renew it.

West Ham have allegedly told Kinnear that he is free to move on and can begin looking for a new club ahead of the transfer window.

It’s noted that a return to Scotland could be on the cards for Kinnear.

League One side Falkirk are interested in signing Kinnear permanently having taken him on loan earlier this year.

Falkirk are hopeful of promotion to the second tier so a deal for Kinnear could yet become even more viable.

It’s a shame that Kinnear’s move to the Premier League hasn’t quite worked out and most Rangers fans would like to see him thrive with his next club.

First-team football has to be the key focus for Kinnear at this stage in his development and returning to Scotland – nearly three years since leaving Rangers – may be the best move for him.
