As Rangers are boosted by the news Ryan Jack is back in full-time training, Gers manager Steven Gerrard quickly tempers short-term expectations.
The Ibrox gaffer was obviously delighted to have Ryan Jack back amongst his squad with the Scotland international considered amongst the most prominent players in the Gers side.
But with Motherwell on the horizon Gerrard appeared to suggest that the midfielder won’t walk back into the side as Rangers need to be patient with the midfielder.
“Ryan Jack is back with the group, he’s done his first full session with the group yesterday,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“He’ll train again this morning so we welcome him back, that’s a big boost for everyone.
“Will he be involved against Motherwell? That’s a decision I’ll make after today’s session, that might be one we have to be patient a little bit longer with.
“But he is back in the group and for sure he will be involved next week but we’ll see how he goes this morning before we make a decision on Motherwell.”
When pressed on Jack’s injury history and the club’s plans to protect the midfielder going forward Gerrard was also clear that his situation will need to be managed.
“We’ve always tried to monitor the load of all the players,” said Gerrard.
“Players are all different in different areas in different ways.
“Some players are really robust, some players need a little bit more attention.
“Jacko is a difficult one because he’s so important, he’s a player we rate very much. I don’t think I have to go in record to let you know what I think of him.
“You want him in the team as much as possible and he wants to be in the team as much as possible but it’s something we’ve spoken to Ryan and something we’ve spoken to Steve Clarke about.

“The reality is that Ryan does need looking after different from other players and it’s something we’ll keep an eye on and try and make him available as much as we can because he’s so important to club and country.”
There might be some uncertainty over Ryan Jack’s involvement against Motherwell but did the Rangers presser hint to one player on the fringes of the squad being involved?
