Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has been touted as a future England manager as he continues to impress in management with Rangers.

That’s the view of former Celtic centre-half Paul Elliot, who’s been speaking to the BBC.

In comments full of praise, the former Charlton, Aston Villa, and Chelsea defender believes Gerrard has all the attributes to take charge of the country he once captained.

“Coming to Scotland has been a fantastic move for him,” said Elliott.

“He was a great player and I always believed he would have a natural progression into management. There was just something about him, he’s different, he thinks different.

“He’s a natural leader and management is in his DNA. I actually think he’s a long-term future England manager, potentially. I rate him that highly.”

Gerrard’s move to Rangers was initially met with much criticism in Scotland, but the iconic former Liverpool midfielder has done a superb job in the small space of time he’s been with the club.

In two seasons, Gerrard has taken Rangers to the Europa League group stages and transformed the side into genuine title contenders.

It’s little wonder the Rangers gaffer is being touted for big things in his career – after he’s done leaving his mark at Ibrox of course.

But before the man is talked about for the England job, there’s still plenty of speculation about a return to Anfield to take charge of his beloved Liverpool.

Jerzy Dudek comments [Daily Record] earlier in the week about Gerrard being primed for the job and Jurgen Klopp’s admission [Kicker, quoted by Sky Sports] about a potential sabbatical in 2022 suggests there might be something in it.
