Rangers boss Steven Gerrard singles out four players in transfer update

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard suggested that the first port of call for new Sporting Director will be getting rid of the deadwood at Ibrox in the upcoming transfer window.

The Gers boss told reporters that the club are unlikely to dip into the January transfer window [Evening Times] unless it’s for a player who will considerably prove the first XI at the right price.

Whilst he claimed there’s plenty of trimming to be done come the winter window, did his comments also allude to the players Gerrard values most highly at Ibrox?

“The next window will be more to downsize in terms of numbers,” explains Gerrard [Evening Times].

“If a player becomes available that’s better than what we’ve got, myself and Ross will look at it.

“But sitting here right now, I think it’ll be very hard to find someone in January who’s better than a Ryan Jack, a Connor Goldson, a Joe Aribo or an Alfredo Morelos.

“I’m not sure those players will be out there in the market where we’re shopping.”

With loads of talk about undroppable players amongst the support in recent days, it’s interesting that Gerrard has picked out these names.

These four players form a solid, technically decent and powerful spine of our team and whilst Gerrard is clearly just referencing, it gives an insight into how much he values these guys.

These are quality options and the manager is right, we’re unlikely to be able to get someone on their level in the market we’re shopping in.

But it shows just how much Steven Gerrard rates these four players as we look ahead to the upcoming transfer window.
