Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has provided an update to the transfer situation of Romanian talent Ianis Hagi, who is currently on loan from Genk.
The son of Romanian legend Gheorghe, Hagi joined the Ibrox club on deadline day of the January window and has gone on to make a solid impression in his first month or so at the club.
With Rangers having an exclusive option to buy clause in the deal, Gerrard says there’s plenty of time to assess whether they’ll move for the attacking midfielder or not.
“We don’t have to push the ball to get it rolling on Hagi just yet. We’ve got time,” said Gerrard [Daily Record].
“He’s had a strong impact and we’re delighted with him on and off the pitch.
“He’s professional, a student of the game and has quickly picked up how we want to play.
“People talk about the assists and goals but positionally he’s clever.
“His work-rate, his attitude – he has ticked every box.
“It’s a fantastic position to be in, knowing we have first option on him. But I don’t have to make a decision now.
“Does he have to maintain this level of performance?
“All the players do if they want to stay.”
Gerrard’s comments echo that of Gary McAllister, who has previously spoken positively about the prospect of the Ibrox club moving for the midfielder [Sky Sports].
Considered one of the brightest talents in European football, it would be a considerable coup if Rangers could sign the 21-year-old.
HLN reports that a fee of €5 million or around £4.2 million would be enough to secure his transfer.
