The foundation of Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has made a £5k donation to a local Govan charity in order to help feed vulnerable members of the community during the coronavirus outbreak.
The big-hearted Ibrox gaffer made the welcome contribution to the Govan Youth Information Project via the Steven Gerrard Foundation.
Working closely with the Rangers charity foundation, the Ibrox gaffer deserves every credit for making this sizeable donation.
The £5k donation will fund the charity for three weeks with the aim of supplying local young and vulnerable people with food throughout the crisis.
This will not be last donation the group needs in order to keep working, with a further £8k required for the group to go the distance over the next 13 weeks.
But it is certainly a start and the charity will directly feel the benefit of this immense support from the Steven Gerrard Foundation.
Govan Youth Information Project representative Kevin Burke expressed his gratitude over the donation [Rangers Charity Foundation]:
“Our Spring Holiday Programme, which caters for 120 young people per session twice a day, provides activities, trips, food and education through fun had to be cancelled due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
“Recognising the need to provide food for those young people most in need while not at school, we quickly partnered up with local agencies to offer a food provision.
“With the fantastic donation from The Steven Gerrard Foundation and The Glasgow Children’s Holiday Food Programme Grant, we aim to provide food for young people and the wider community through a co-ordinated partnership approach.
“I’d like to express my sincere thanks for this support.”
Rangers boss Steven Gerrard said he was “delighted” his foundation could help out and urged everyone to “stay safe and stay home”.
