Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has confirmed he is confident of signing a new contract with the Ibrox club.
Reports that Gerrard was set to sign a new deal [STV] surfaced before the Betfred Cup Final defeat at the weekend.
Speaking as he previewed his side’s crunch Europa League decider with Young Boys, Gerrard suggested that the belief he has in the squad he has helped build made this a “pretty simple decision”.
“I’m very grateful for the opportunity in the first place to get a chance to manage and lead this football club,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“I’ve enjoyed my time here so far, I think we’re going in the right direction. If you’re happy, then why not? That’s my motto.
“I believe in these players, I believe in the club, in the direction it’s going.
“On the evidence of what I have seen at the weekend even though the day didn’t go in our favour, there was enough evidence there for me that if we keep doing the right things, keep working hard for each other our day will come, and I want to part of that.
“The club approached me a week to 10 days ago about a new deal and it’s a pretty simple decision as far as I’m concerned.
“I want to stay around, I’m happy here, I’m as hungry and determined to get the good days back here as I ever was so talks have been pretty straightforward and positive.
“When it’s signed and announced you’ll have to wait and see.”

In the last eighteen months, Steven Gerrard has transformed Rangers from essential no-hopers into real title contenders.
There is still work to be done by Gerrard clearly believes the side have shown enough already that more opportunities for silverware will come for Rangers.
Gerrard signing a new contract also stands as a major statement of commitment from both parties.
