Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has thrown his support behind his Rangers side despite his team narrowly losing out in the Betfred Cup Final to Celtic.
The Gers might’ve been on the receiving end of a 1-0 defeat to their greatest rivals, but the Ibrox club was dominant for large spells of the game and just lacked a little bit of composure in the final third.
The performance of his team is something Gerrard was clearly happy with and he was quick to sing the praises of his charges after the match.
“I’ve got a big job to pick them all up because it’s a tough one,” said Gerrard [BBC Scotland].
“It’s raw right now but this is football at the top. We’ll suffer and then we’ll bounce back.”
“I’ll stay with these players. On the evidence of what I’ve seen today, performance-wise, I’m staying right behind them.”
Gerrard also discussed Celtic’s goal after replays appeared to show that there were three Celtic players offside as the ball came in from the left.
The likes of James Tavernier have been outspoken about the incident [Daily Record], but Gerrard believes it emboldens the case for VAR in Scotland.
“The big moments haven’t gone in our favour today,” said Gerrard.

“We conceded from a set-piece which we shouldn’t have given away and had to defend it better. There were three Celtic players standing in offside positions but unfortunately, we play in a country where there is no VAR.
“I’d be a liar if I said I was 100% in favour of it, but the one thing I do know is that officials up here need support.”
