Rangers boss Steven Gerrard hinted transfer plans are afoot ahead of the club’s quest to reach the £30m land of milk and honey that is the Champions League group stages.
“Recruitment never stops” has been repeated so much over Gerrard’s time at Ibrox that it’s fast one becoming one of the hallmark mottos on which his tenure is being built on.
Alongside Ross Wilson, Rangers and Gerrard have built a championship-winning squad in two-and-a-bit seasons but there will no resting on the club’s laurels heading into the next campaign.
Nmandi Ofoborh is a name already secured – set to join from Bournemouth on a pre-contract in the summer – but Gerrard’s comments hint more glamourous moves could be afoot.
Rangers will want to do the club proud in their hunt for European success and should they take that Champions League step up it’ll need a Champions League transfer market.
“Let’s hope so [Rangers reaching Champions League group stages],” said Gerrard [BT Sport].
“It’s obviously been the dream since day one and I’d love nothing better than to try and deliver that for the supporters.
“What’s important is there will be private conversations. Recruitment never stops here, we all understand that football is all about levels and to keep progressing and moving forward you have to keep fine-tuning and adding.
“Everyone’s on the same page, top to bottom. Everyone is sharing the dream, everyone wants to continue to add to the success.
“Everyone is hungry to keep improving things here, that is the message that everyone needs to hear.”
That “message” is one which will be so sweet to hear for Rangers starved of success for so long and desperate to return to the upper echelons of European football.
Rangers fans will also love the messaging coming out of the club regarding this year’s European campaign with the sky seemingly the limit amongst the squad and playing staff.
