Steven Gerrard has responded to concerns about the fitness of Rangers midfielder Steven Davis ahead of Sunday’s League Cup final against Celtic, as captured by RangersTV.

The manager was fielding questions following the penultimate Gers training session before the Hampden showdown.

It’s already well documented that Borna Barisic is trying to shake off an injury, as he was forced to sit out of the midweek clash against Aberdeen.

However, during the presser, a journalist asked whether there was any truth to ‘online’ rumours suggesting Davis was also carrying a knock.

“I don’t read what’s online, I don’t get involved, those days stopped a long time ago,” replied Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV. “You get a lot of that at Rangers, a lot of online opinion and keyboard warriors going about their business.”

“We’ve still got one full session left, I’ll give you that we’ve got a few carrying knocks, but that’s probably normal coming after a tough game on Wednesday night. But, we will have everyone out there in the morning trying to get through the last session.

“If that’s the case I should have a fully fit group to pick from, but there are one or two who are nursing knocks from Wednesday night.”

Verdict

No straight answer from Gerrard on Davis, then, inferring that he could be one of those who picked up a minor problem at Pittodrie.

It’s good to hear that no one has been ruled out as yet, though, as the Northern Ireland skipper is vital to Rangers’ hopes at Hampden.

He’s the only outfield player who has been there and done it before for the club, having played in the 2-1 AET win over Celtic the last time the Gers won the competition back in 2011.

The vastly experienced maestro brings a sense of calm to the midfield and has a passing range like no other in the squad. Stevie G will be desperate to have him in the starting XI come Sunday.
