Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has provided an injury update on a crocked trio as the club return from the international break with a match against Dundee United.

The Gers host the Arabs at Ibrox this coming Saturday and Gerrard’s side have taken full advantage of the two-week break between matches to get their injured players back fit.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the crunch tie at Ibrox, Gerrard revealed that three of his charges are approaching full-training after injury lay-offs, even if they’ll miss the tie with United.

“(The international break has) been a chance for us to get injured players closer to being back into full training,” said Gerrard.

“Jermain Defoe is on the verge of that, Cedric Itten is on the verge of that.

“Jordan Jones – his injury is not as bad as first feared so we’re hoping in a week’s time we should be in real good shape from an injury point of view.

“So it’s been a positive international break so far.”

Rangers striker Jermain Defoe has been out of action since pulling his hamstring in the 4-0 friendly win against Motherwell in July, whilst Cedric Itten picked up a calf injury in training.

Jordan Jones was pulled out of the Northern Ireland squad during the week with an injury “knock” but the crocked Rangers winger could now be back sooner rather than later.

Interestingly Gers boss Gerrard didn’t touch on the fitness of Nigerian international Joe Aribo (ankle) in the interview with RangersTV.

However Gerrard has previously claimed the player “should” make the match against Dundee United.

The Rangers manager has also praised the progress of summer signing Kemar Roofe who Gerrard believes “is starting to look really ready”.
