But despite that, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has previously admitted that the club is “extremely close” to a pre-contract deal for Scott Wright whilst names continue to be linked to the club.

The two most recent players linked to Ibrox are Bournemouth pair Jack Simpson and Nnamdi Ofoborh.

The centre-back and midfielder were linked to Ibrox by Sky Sports journalist Mark McAdam who claimed Gerrard was been a “long time admirer” of Simpson in particular.

But Gerrard was particularly tight-lipped when it came to his press conference ahead of the trip to Ross County as he batted off questions about transfer moves with a vague statement.

The Liverpool legend claims “the recruitment never stops” and also claimed the Gers are “one/two windows ahead” at all times, even if he admits the club are “actively searching”.

“The recruitment never stops here, we are always trying to improve and get better,” said Gerrard [Rangers].

“We are always looking further down the line and looking one/two windows ahead. We are all on the same page from Ross (Wilson), the recruitment and scouts.

“Rangers are linked with players on a daily basis so it is not news to me. We are actively trying to add to the group for the summer but I certainly won’t mention any names.”

As it stands Rangers are yet to make a signing in the January window but there have been links aplenty.

There’s even been one from Belgium which claims the Gers want a talented young Ghanaian-born winger linked to an Ibrox director.
