Rangers boss Steven Gerrard hailed Ibrox keeper Allan McGregor as the Gers boss provided an update over the stopper’s contract and future.

Gers legend Greegsy has been on fine form once again this season with the goalkeeper giving his side a platform to go in front in Hamilton via a string of top saves.

With the Gers losing a goal in the final minute to drop two points McGregor’s furious post-match interview has since become the stuff of instant legend.

Gerrard admits that he “loved” the McGregor interview admitting he’d watched it seven times as he paid tribute to the Ibrox staff.

The Gers boss would also admit that the club will sit down with McGregor when the time is right and discuss the situation surrounding the 39-year-old’s future.

“He is a big leader in the group. Allan is someone who is very robotic in terms of his routine, he comes in and his standards are the same every single day,” said Gerrard [Glasgow Times].

“He has the same routine before training, he has the same routine before games, he never drops his standards or has a day off.

“His preparation and his focus is at a level that is up there with the best goalies that I have ever worked with.

“We are delighted with his form and if he can maintain that from now until the end of the season then I am sure that will be a big help to us.

“He is the reason, or one of the big reasons, why we are in the position we are in today.

“We all know his age, we all know his situation and in the coming weeks I will be sitting down with Allan and having a real good conversation to see what is next for him.

“He will be a major factor in what happens moving forward. We will respect him. He knows his body, he knows where he’s at, he knows where his hunger levels are.

“He knows how he wants the short, medium and long term to look. He’s at that age now where he will be doing a lot of thinking about what’s next.

“In my position, I hope that’s to still work with Allan moving forward.

“But I don’t know how the next weeks and months are going to shape his future.

“But we will be very respectful. We will listen to him and make a decision together on the back of that.”

The ball appears very much in McGregor’s court and it’s hard to blame him for concentrating on the here and now rather than what happens come the end of the season.

Rangers fans also loved the keeper’s post-match Hamilton comments with McGregor recognised as a key component of the club’s title charge this season.
