Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that qualifying for the Europa League group stages could be central to the club’s ambitions in the transfer market.
The Ibrox gaffer has previously admitted the club are on the hunt for another midfielder before the window closes this coming Monday.
With the prospect of Euro millions and six more high profile games if Rangers qualify a place in the Europa League group stages certainly helps in the chase for new talent.
Gerrard was speaking candidly about the club’s transfer plans ahead of the playoff clash with Galatasaray and admitted the result could have a bearing on any signings in the coming days.
“I’ve made it pretty clear what I feel we need,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“But I also respect the club’s position and the current climate and the situation that we’re in.
“I do think that depending on whether we qualify or not would depend on what we try and do in the final days.
“But I think that’s a question for people that are above me at the club, I can’t really answer that question right now.
“I’ve made it pretty clear what I feel we need to keep moving forward, to make sure that we don’t stand still.”
Rangers have been linked with a move for Preston North End midfielder Daniel Johnson in recent weeks but talks have stalled over the Deepdale club’s asking price.
Reports suggest Preston could want around £3m for the Jamaican playmaker despite the fact his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
Rangers have also been linked with reigniting a move for South African midfielder Bongani Zungu after a deal collapsed earlier in the transfer window [Scotsman].
