Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has waxed lyrical about Fashion Sakala ahead of Thursday’s Europa League clash against Brondby.

The Gers are travelling to Denmark to take on the Superliga champions in Group A, just a fortnight after downing them 2-0 at Ibrox.

Brondby have regrouped somewhat since then but Rangers will be full of confidence after an outstanding performance against Motherwell at the weekend.

After a stop-start first few months following his summer move from KV Oostende, Sakala announced himself as a Rangers star at Fir Park, netting a fine hat-trick in the 6-1 win.

After being asked about Sakala during a press conference on Wednesday morning, Gerrard raved about what the Zambia international brings both as a player and as a person.

“We felt we needed something different, something that we could maybe polish up and develop,” said the manager [RangersTV]. “Someone who could add a real strength to our attacking play with that raw pace and power and that little bit of unpredictability.”

“He’s an incredible human being. The way he’s come into the club with his smile and his demeanour, his attitude and his energy, he’s lifted the whole place.

“We needed time to make him settle. He needed to get used to us and we needed to get used to him. The signs are that he’s starting to really find his feet here at Rangers and he’s a really exciting one for everyone to watch moving forward.”

Sakala was outstanding at the weekend and he’s sure to be brimming with confidence ahead of the Brondby clash.

As a result, it’d be a surprise if he didn’t keep his spot in the starting XI against a side who looked vulnerable at the back in Glasgow last month.

He’s appeared in every Group A fixture so far but is yet to net for the Gers in Europe.
