Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has made a special request to Croatian international and former Liverpool teammate Dejan Lovern – that he takes care of Borna Barisic.
Gerrard took to Instagram to make the request of now Zenit St. Peterburg player Lovren as he shared an image of himself training with the country’s national team.
On the Instagram post Gerrard comments on his official account:
“Look after Borna my man”
The big defender, 31, would then reply:
“As always Stevie, he will come back tougher”
Lovren, 31, spent six years at Anfield before leaving the club in the summer to join Russian outfit Zenit St. Petersburg.
The 6ft2 Croat centre-half spent a season playing alongside Gerrard for Liverpool before the former Anfield skipper moved to LA Galaxy in 2015.
Gerrard’s comments show just how much he respects and cares for Barisic and just how vital the defender is to the manager’s plans this season.
The flying wing-back has emerged as a vital part of the Rangers side with reports suggesting the Gers rebuffed a bid for the player said to be wide of the mark.

Reports in Croatia had suggested Barisic had been subject to an £8m (€9m) bid from Premier League Leeds United earlier in the transfer window.
But a report back on Scottish soil has claimed that the defender hasn’t been the subject of any official interest and Rangers would likely demand at least £16m for his services [Daily Record].
