Rangers boss Steven Gerrard praised James Tavernier after Saturday’s win over Dundee United before issuing a challenge to his skipper, as captured by RangersTV.
It was a special day for the Gers captain at Ibrox, as he marked his 250th appearance for the club with a goal, a clean sheet and three points.

Tavernier scored his side’s second in the 39th minute, arriving at the back post to tap home a Borna Barisic cross on the stretch, giving his side breathing space ahead of the interval.
The RangersTV panel sung the Englishman’s praises after the match and his manager wasn’t far behind.
“I thought it was Tav’s strongest performance of the season today,” said Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV. “I know it was his 250th game, his goals and assists speak for themselves.”
“We know what he gives us on a daily basis, he’s always available. I just hope now he can go and reward the service he’s given to the club.
“Come to the end of the season, being there when the prizes are given out, because that’s what he’ll be remembered for.”
Rangers boss Gerrard praises James Tavernier and issues challenge – Verdict
Tavernier has faced heavy criticism from sections of the Rangers support throughout his time at the club, but there’s been next to nothing to pull him up on so far this season.
The skipper has led by example from right-back and was outstanding against Dundee United.
Tav already has two goals and three assists in the league this season and has contributed to a remarkable seven consecutive clean sheets.
As superb as his individual numbers are, though, Gerrard is right. If the Englishman wants to be remembered at Ibrox for years to come, he has to start winning things.
In order to do that, he and his teammates must maintain their current high performance levels for the duration of the season.
