Rangers boss Steven Gerrard says he will not apologise for his passionate celebrations following his side’s victory over Celtic on Sunday afternoon, as captured by RangersTV.

Goals from Ryan Kent and Nikola Katic helped the Gers to a 2-1 triumph – their first at Parkhead in nine years – prompting scenes of jubilation from Gerrard and his backroom staff at the final whistle.

There were hugs all round and Gerrard roared into the Sky Sports cameras on multiple occasions, but he doesn’t regret his actions.

“I’m not gonna apologise for that’,” said Gerrard, as captured by RangersTV. “This means a lot to me, I came here for a reason, because I want these players to be successful, I want this club to be successful and I want these supporters to be successful. That’s what it means to me.”

“That’s what myself and my staff are putting into this job – we’re living it and we’re doing everything we can.”

Verdict

Immense credit must go to Gerrard for Sunday’s victory.

After three transfer windows of work, this is very much his squad and he set his team up in such a way that they were able to dominate Celtic for the second time in a month. On this occasion, his players got the goals to match the performance.

As he says, his reaction at full time showed just how much this all means to him. It was pure unadulterated joy and no matter what the likes of Chris Sutton have to say about it, there’s no need for him to apologise for anything.

Celtic were fortunate at Hampden and needed further luck to score on their own patch today. Yet, in the end, Gerrard’s side were simply too good for Neil Lennon’s and he has every right to celebrate that.
