Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has expressed his disappointment over the high-profile Covid-19 breach which has seen five Ibrox stars forced into self-isolation.
Gers boss Gerrard revealed that Bongani Zungu, Nathan Patterson, Calvin Bassey, Dapo Mebude and Brian Kinnear are all in line for punishment after breaching strict protocols over the weekend.
But whilst the wrath of Gerrard and Rangers might be bad enough, the Ibrox gaffer’s comments on the situation suggest there could be worse to come from outside.
The Gers gaffer confirmed that the club are in contact with the relevant authorities as the question remains over what punishment is to come from the powers that be.
“First and foremost we have to acknowledge that five of our players have been involved in a breach of the Covid regulations,” said Gerrard [Rangers].
“Which, from the top of the club to the bottom, we’re all really disappointed in.
“That will be dealt with internally, the players will be fined and we are in dialogue with the SFA and the Government moving forward to find the solution in terms of those boys.
“They’ve been removed from the club and the squad for now on a short-term basis while they isolate and I’ll be sitting down with those boys face to face once we’re allowed to do so.”
For many Rangers, the “solution” is moving on these players on such is the level of disappointment shared by the supporters.
But all five players will be well aware that sanctions await them when their isolation period ends.
One player in particular has come in for major criticism with Bongani Zungu being the most senior member of the five players involved.
