Tomorrow’s clash signals the Gers’ return to competitive action, after a false start start in the Scottish Cup on Friday.
Sunday, saw a productive warm-up outing against HJK Helsinki, but the intensity will go up a notch at Rugby Park.
One player who should be involved, is Borna Barisic.
There was concern that the injury-plagued left-back had picked up yet another issue during Sunday’s friendly.
After a long periods on the sideline with calf and hamstring trouble, that would have been a major blow to Gerrard before 2019 began in earnest.
However, this morning, the manager informed the media that Barisic is fit.
However, there was less positive news concerning a centre-back.
Vice-Captain, Connor Goldson, is set to miss the fixture.
He picked up a series of knocks in the build up to the winter break and went through the pain barrier to feature against Celtic.
Those niggles are still hampering the defender.
It’s unlikely to be a long-term issue, but he won’t be risked tomorrow night.
Gareth McAuley, Joe Worrall and Nikola Katic, will now fight it out for selection.
All three defenders have a point to prove. McAuley has had his own injury problems, while Katic has been frozen out since August.
Joe Worrall’s outstanding Old Firm performance should leave him in line to start.
