Rangers are set to suffer a financial blow as Calvin Bassey reportedly prepares to move to Premier League Brighton after an ill-fated stint with Ajax in the Eredivisie.
According to Calcio Mercato, Brighton have been monitoring the situation involving Calvin Bassey for several months with manager Roberto Di Zerbi hopeful of striking a deal in the region of £15m.

This comes with Brighton losing Levi Colwill, who returns to Chelsea after a loan stint at the Amex, and Calvin Bassey toiling at Ajax, the centre-back having broken the Rangers transfer record in moving there last summer.
In a tough transition season for Ajax where they finished 3rd in the Dutch top flight, Calvin Bassey was often the scapegoat for a downturn in form as seasons of heavy player trading finally caught up in Amsterdam.
Rangers blow as Brighton linked to Calvin Bassey
Ajax reportedly signed a £23m deal with Rangers to sign Calvin Bassey, the defender impressing heavily on that run to the Europa League Final in Seville.
And now Rangers are set to feel a two-fold financial blow if Calvin Bassey is going to move to Brighton this summer given the centre-back won’t trigger the full £4m in add-ons attached to the deal.
On top of that, and contrary to some reporting in the media, the Rangers Review are claiming that the sell-on attached to Calvin Bassey’s switch to Ajax was dependent on any profit being made on the player.
Given the Brighton reports are for less than what Ajax paid for Calvin Bassey, it means that potentially lucrative sell-on inserted into the Rangers deal is now defunct.

Good move for everyone except Gers
If the deal does go through, Brighton are getting a young, hungry, talented centre-back who is English trained and who has huge potential in the game.
Ajax too are shipping out a player who has not settled in the Netherlands whilst making only a comparatively small loss on the player.
Calvin Bassey is also getting the opportunity to restart his shaky situation on the Continent with a stint in the Premier League.
In fact, the only party which probably stands to lose out in this deal is Rangers, who whilst banking around £19m from the sale of Calvin Bassey, now won’t see the deal maximised in their favour.
