As Rangers struggled to a draw against Aberdeen, the side looked to a direct, pacey option to go by the Dons and offer much better delivery into the box.
Steven Gerrard called upon the out-of-form Sheyi Ojo to do this – much to the dismay of supporters – before eventually introducing new signings Ianis Hagi and Florian Kamberi.
It didn’t work, and Rangers stumbled over the line for a point, but does the omission of one such option from the bench this weekend suggest it’s all but curtains for the player in question?

Jordan Jones does offer that pacey directness and sharp delivery that Rangers were undoubtedly lacking against Aberdeen but he was not included on Gerrard’s bench.
Given Jones’ Scottish Premiership experience and the fact he was signed to offer just that, you like to think we’d have this notorious impact player on the bench as an option.
He showed he can make a difference as a substitute against Legia Warsaw, crossing for Alfredo Morelos’ last-minute winner against the Poles.
But his Ibrox career has stalled since that red card against Celtic and after the resultant injury, he has struggled to get back into the team ever since.
Linked with a move to the likes of Middlesbrough and Stoke City during the transfer window [Daily Mail], Jones didn’t get a loan deal pushed through in time for the January sales coming to an end.

However, the player is now still at the club and available for inclusion in matchday squads.
But despite a brief cameo against Ross County in the week, Jones now appears to be down the pecking order at Ibrox.
The fact the likes of Brandon Barker and Sheyi Ojo were included on the bench before Jones drops a strong hint that his time at Rangers may well be coming to end come May.
