Rangers B hammered Vale of Leithen 6-0 in the Lowland League on Tuesday afternoon, as impressive young striker Tony Weston reached the 20-goal mark for the season.

There was disappointment for the Young Gers on Boxing Day when it was confirmed that the first B-team Old Firm of the season had been postponed following the introduction of fresh restrictions.

However, their clash with Vale of Leithen still went ahead and David McCallum named a relatively strong starting XI against the bottom-of-the-table outfit, although the likes of Adam Devine, Kyle McClelland, Charlie McCann and Juan Alegria were all missing.

Rangers were made to work hard in the first half with the hosts defending solidly early on and launching the odd attack of their own.

The breakthrough finally came in the 29th minute, though, with exciting attacking midfielder Alex Lowry‘s strike finding the bottom corner.

The visitors were unable to add to their lead before the interval, but the floodgates opened in the second half.

It was 2-0 in the 55th minute and 3-0 four minutes later, with rangy 17-year-old striker Robbie Ure finding the net on both occasions.

Then, in the 66th minute, came Weston’s big moment.

The ex-Blackpool starlet made it 4-0 with an outside of the foot finish from the edge of the area and in doing so, reached the milestone of 20 Lowland League goals for the season.

With the game won, McCallum took the opportunity to make a number of substitutions, but the Young Gers weren’t done there.

Kane Ritchie-Hosler made it 5-0 in the 76th minute and then Cole McKinnon completed the scoring five minutes later with a rocket from range.

It was an excellent result in the end for Rangers B, who have finished the year on a really positive note.

Meanwhile, Rangers have reportedly made a decision on the short-term future of a well-liked defender.
