Rangers announced just after lunchtime on Wednesday that the clash with Ross County this evening has been postponed.
Gers were looking to go within two points of Celtic tonight with a Scottish Premiership victory heading into the Old Firm, but won’t get the chance to do that.
The adverse weather conditions on the A9 road – the main route between Dingwall and Glasgow – is the reason behind it. After consultation with Police Scotland, County confirmed they wouldn’t be able to fulfil the fixture.
Storm Gerrit is currently causing havoc across parts of Britain and has brought heavy snow to northern areas of Scotland.
Pictures of a snow-covered A9 exemplified how dangerous the conditions were and with County planning to travel on the day of the game, the decision against doing so was taken in the interest of safety.
Van Der Heyden reacts to Rangers announcement

The official announcement from Rangers sparked an immediate reaction from Ibrox assistant manager Stephan Van Der Heyden.
Posting to X accompanied with Rangers’ short Instagram statement, Philippe Clement’s right-hand man wrote: “Can not even remember when I had a game postponed…”
Clearly, Van Der Heyden isn’t too familiar with matches being postponed. The 54-year-old Belgian spent most of his assistant managerial career in his home country, as well as spells in Jordan and India.
So his 10-word statement does not come as a surprise. Scottish football is all too accustomed to the risks of postponements at this time of year, mainly due to the conditions of pitches.
Rangers confirmed Ibrox was in tip-top condition to host the encounter with Ross County. But the Staggies getting to the stadium was clearly deemed too unsafe and the match will have to be rescheduled at a later date.
