Rangers are just three wins away from breaking Celtic’s embarrassing stat that they just can’t get over.
Brendan Rodgers’ side haven’t won more than three league games in a row since the end of the 2016/17 campaign. It’s a ridiculous stat that Rangers managed to break twice last season.
With the upcoming fixtures on the agenda, Rangers should fancy their chances of doing it once again. Celtic are two points clear of the Gers in the table, but getting some consistency into their game has been an issue.
The stat isn’t just some throwaway numbers that mean little. The fact is that despite the Parkhead side failing to achieve it, they still managed to win the league last season. From a Rangers perspective, that’s totally unacceptable. With Celtic also struggling this season, it’s important Rangers don’t allow them off the hook so easily.
The upcoming matches
The next three matches Rangers have in the league is St Johnstone at home, Livingston away, and Hearts at home. The Hearts encounter is likely to be a meaty one, but the Gers will be confident of success in it regardless.
Celtic managed to drop what should’ve been simple points against St Mirren last weekend. To be frank, they’re there for the taking if Rangers can improve their consistency against the teams below them.
Already it looks as though Gerrard is sorting out the Ibrox fear factor that seemed to overwhelm Rangers’ players last season. In its place is a confidence and vibrancy around Govan.
It all links back to consistency, however. If Celtic manage to break their embarrassing stat, Rangers will need to raise their levels. The draws at Aberdeen and Motherwell were decent performances, but they were still draws. They got Rangers one point, and that’s ultimately why they still sit behind Hearts and Celtic at the moment.
Beating the three in a row record would be a fun little joke for Rangers fans to have over their Celtic counterparts. At the end of the day, however, Rangers need to be looking at the bigger picture and ensuring a three-match winning run is child’s play.
