Every striker has done it, some more than others and Rangers fans will point to Cyriel Dessers this season as someone guilty more than most.
Missing sitters is part of the game, it’s all fun and games when it is someone else or against you, but there are few things more frustrating than when a tap-in or open goal isn’t taken advantage of.
Rangers fans and manager Philippe Clement will have to make do with Cyriel Dessers until the end of the season now due to injuries, however, even if we had Cristiano Ronaldo, it doesn’t look like it would make much difference.

Even Rangers striker Cyriel Dessers would score this
Playing in the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League for Al Nassr against Al Ain, the greatest of all time in many football fans’ eyes had the chance to fire his team in front on the night and level over the two legs with 30 minutes left to play.
What happened next is way worse than anything Dessers has produced this season.
Currently on 16 goals for the season, the big Nigerian had a slow start under Michael Beale before finding a much-improved goalscoring form under Philippe Clement.
The chance he created for himself at 0-0 at Easter Road is the perfect example of what he now brings to the team, but also of why he still frustrates.
There was nothing as he chased a hopeful long ball and yet he still ended up facing David Marshall about eight yards away from goal.
The finish not matching the fine work he had done to get there.
Back to Ronaldo though, and can you imagine if Dessers had missed this in such a big game….
This miss isn’t why Al Nassr exited the tournament but it certainly didn’t help, who knows what might have happened had the 39-year old not fluffed his lines.
Maybe he is human after all or, maybe it’s the start of a decline in his considerable powers.
I suppose he can be forgiven for that, pick any statistic you want to defend him and any of them would be justified.
But defending this….
