Andy Dallas’ goals this season for the Rangers reserves have shot him to the first-team squad at the club, and it turns out he’s been at it yet again.

The Gers youngster was on the scoresheet once more as the reserves lost out 2-1 to Hearts at the Oriam. It was a disappointing defeat for the back-up men. It was also just the reserves’ second loss of the season as they stay top of the table.

There were plenty of talking points to take away from the defeat too. The embarrassing demotion to the side for Nikola Katic, who must be wondering what he has to do to get a game in Glasgow now. That one is probably the standout as fans still scratch their heads over his situation.

Despite that, it was another positive day for Dallas. His goal continues an incredible goal-scoring run that’s finally being noticed by the Rangers manager. It follows a huge brace against Rapid Vienna last Thursday night, as well as his inclusion in the first-team squad against Hamilton on Sunday.

With Rangers in need of a third striker to join them in January, this is the perfect time for Dallas to keep making an impact.

Rangers likely to buy another striker anyway

It’s unlikely Rangers go through January without buying a striker. Tom Eaves and Dominic Solanke have both been linked with the club in recent weeks. It certainly won’t harm Dallas’ chances, however, if he keeps netting at reserve-level.

Umar Sadiq has already left the club to head back to Roma, whilst Kyle Lafferty struggles to make much of an impact. Opportunities will be there for Dallas if he continues to stand out.

Whilst it wasn’t his greatest display against Hearts, goals are all that matters for him at the moment. With Ryan Hardie also impressing out on loan at Livingston, it’s vital that Dallas keeps up his fine form.

Rangers had 10 under-18 players featuring against Hearts – showing the strength of youth player they have.

Despite the positives, however, it was still a bitter blow for the team as a whole to lose out. But Dallas’ fine form continues, and that’s a huge plus-point for Rangers and Steven Gerrard.
