Rangers and Nigeria fans have lauded Joe Aribo for his exploits on international duty over the weekend.

A late withdrawal from the Super Eagles squad from Oghenekaro Etebo handed the midfielder a start against a star-studded Brazil side in Singapore on Sunday evening.

Neymar, Roberto Firmino and Gabriel Jesus lined up in the opposition.

Yet, it was the Ibrox man who produced the most impressive piece of quality of the game.

Receiving a pass on the edge of the Brazil box, he ghosted past one defender and checked inside past another, before dispatching a finish beyond Ederson in the 35th minute.

It was a moment described as ‘genius’ by former Nigeria midfielder Henry Nwosu, who drew comparisons between Aribo and Jon Obi Mikel [Soccernet.ng].

The ex-Charlton man was given a big billing before he arrived in Glasgow, but few would have believed that a player who was snapped up for £300k just a matter of months ago [Scotsman], would so soon be producing the goods on the international stage.

It’s a coup for Rangers to have landed such a talent, but it’s not just Bears who’re getting excited.

When Aribo took to social media to recognise the goal, he was inundated with praise from Super Eagles supporters, too. It’s clear they believe a new hero has arrived on the scene.
