Rangers’ Old Firm rivals Celtic are set to join the race for in-demand St. Mirren goalkeeper Vaclav Hladky whose contract is expiring at the end of the current campaign.

Rangers have previously been linked with a move for the talented Czech stopper as the club look for someone suitable to be the long-term replacement to Allan McGregor.

Celtic too are in need of a stopper with Fraser Forster due to return to Southampton after a loan deal and Craig Gordon’s contract expiring at the end of the season.

According to the Scottish Sun, both sides of the Old Firm are interested in procuring the services of the 29-year-old shot-stopper.

Hladky was first linked with a move to Ibrox back in November last year as reports suggested the Gers were mulling over a pre-contract move [Scottish Sun].

With Allan McGregor 37 and having a year left on his current deal, there’s little doubt that the veteran stopper won’t be around forever.

In fact, McGregor’s excellent form since returning to Rangers has largely glossed over the player’s age, with Greegsy displaying the reactions and athleticism of someone 15 years his junior.

Backup goalkeeper Wes Foderingham has bided his time at Rangers but with first-team chances limited and his contract expiring, he hinted he could move on in the summer.

Whilst the 22-year-old has been touted for big things, McCrorie still has some room to develop before taking the number one jersey at Ibrox.

Hladky could be seen as a solution to the future goalkeeping problems at Ibrox but according to one report, Rangers will need to beat off Celtic to sign him.
