We get it. Celtic goalkeeper Fraser Forster pulled off a worldie to earn our biggest rivals three points against Lazio in the Europa League last week.
The on-loan Southampton keeper got a powerful hand to a screwed Danilo Cataldi effort to prevent the Italians from gaining a point in Glasgow. It was a tremendous save.
But such has been the ridiculous fawning off the back of it, we’re now getting articles – such as this one from the Daily Record – claiming he’s as good as Rangers’ Allan McGregor.
Listen, we know you’re excited bhoys, but c’mon.
The Gers goalie pulled off his own superb double stop away to Porto with the 37-year-old’s concentration and positioning evident as he earned Rangers a point.
Without comparing the two saves on the night, McGregor makes his double stop in Portugal look fantastically easy.
It was anything but.
No-one is saying that Forster isn’t a decent goalkeeper. You don’t get six caps for the England international team if you’re not (actually, wait a minute…)
But to suddenly propel the Celtic goalkeeper to the level of the brilliant and wonderfully consistent McGregor is a slap in the face.
Forster was struggling Southampton’s third-choice stopper two months ago.
If Forster can produce the kind of show-stopping, match-winning heroics that Allan McGregor has for his entire career than maybe we can begin to talk.
If anyone’s asking for a comparison between the two, then there’s no comparison at all.
