Rangers are directly affected as UEFA plan to cut club competition prize money in the coming seasons in order to offset losses due to Covid-19.
According to the Times, the European football governing body will cut the amount of money clubs receive for playing in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League for the next five seasons.

The report claims that UEFA has already informed member associations that it lost £514m due to a reduction in television and sponsorship income.
This came after the continental competitions were halted by Covid-19 and then restarted both without crowds and as one-legged affairs.
The report claims that previously €1.95bn had been set aside for the 32 clubs who qualified for the group stages of the Champions League last season.
But the Times believe that this is now set to drop by 4% with the decision to do it over five years done to help share the financial burden.
This could be similar with the Europa League, with Sport Business claiming that “the model for the Europa League is broadly similar with starting fees and performance fees allocated in the same proportions”.

Rangers’ finances have been dramatically boosted by qualification of the Europa League in the last three seasons and will hope they can build on this going forward.
The Gers will also have sights on the Champions League with a coefficient boost brought on by Rangers’ success meaning there are now two qualification spaces for Scottish clubs for Europe’s premier competition.
